The whole family went to our local Santa Claus Parade a couple weeks ago. The kiddos had a blast! They were worried about something though! There was no snow!! How could they go to a Santa Claus Parade without any snow?! When you live in Canada, Santa and snow go hand in hand. That afternoon, before the parade, I decided to make the kids this awesome ‘let it snow’ bottle. We may not have had snow on the ground, but they just loved this snow bottle. It’s like a giant version of a snow globe and they’re still playing with it daily! Here’s how we made it:
What you’ll need:
large plastic water bottle, empty and cleaned – I used the large (850ml) voss bottle for the wide mouth so I could easily fit the snowflakes in the top!
1 bottle of clear school glue
white glitter
assorted snowflakes – I used beads and buttons
water
glue to glue the lid on tight
Directions:
1. Empty the entire bottle of clear glue into the empty water bottle. If you’re using a smaller bottle than I did, you might want to add less glue. What the glue does is help make the water thicker so the glitter and snowflakes will suspend longer. The more glue you add, the thicker your water will be.
2. Fill the water bottle up the rest of the way (just below the bottom of the neck) with lukewarm water. The lukewarm water will help the glue dissolve a bit. The glue was a bit lumpy in the water for the first few hours, but looked crystal clear the next day and still looks awesome! Give the glue some time to dissolve.
3. Pour 1 tsp of glitter in the bottle. You don’t want to add too much or you won’t be able to see the snowflakes inside.
4. Toss in some snowflake trinkets – I used about 10 – you be the judge depending on their size.
5. Glue the water bottle lid back on tightly and allow to dry. This will help prevent little ones from opening the bottle and making a big mess!

Jill – what kind of glue did you use for the lid of the bottle to make sure it’s REALLY sealed?
I just used my glue gun because my kids are 4 and 5 and really know better than to open it. If I were making this for a younger child, I’d want to use a really strong glue. You also don’t want to use a lot of glue, or it will make a mess and could drip back into the bottle. I hope that helps!

Hi Corrie! I buy all of my plastic VOSS bottles at Shopper’s Drug Mart. They are with the fancy waters. My store carries 2 sizes and I used the larger one for this craft. Good luck!
